Football prediction McLaren and Honda began discussing a potential partnership (The Race)

In 2026, the legendary McLaren-Honda alliance may return to Formula 1.

The two companies achieved tremendous success in the late 1980s and early 1990s, but cooperation in 2015-2017 turned out to be extremely unsuccessful: Honda eventually went to Red Bull, McLaren began using Renault and then Mercedes engines.

According to The Race, McLaren and Honda have been in contact about reviving the alliance in 2026. The Japanese manufacturer, which formally left Formula 1, supplies power plants to Red Bull and Alpha Tauri until the end of the 2025 season, but from 2026 the Austrians will create engines together with Ford.

At the same time, Honda applied to participate in the championship prediction by questions for football tipsters as a motorist. The company, when making such a decision, most likely understood that it would not compete in F1 with Red Bull, since the team from Milton Keynes communicated with Ford back in 2022. McLaren is also exploring various options for the future.

The publication notes that negotiations are supposedly at an extremely early stage, and does not rule out interest in Honda from other independent teams - for example, Williams.

It is also reported that McLaren chief executive Zak Brown is considering all options and, in particular, visited the Red Bull engine division. However, there are doubts that the Austrians will be able to provide power units to the third team (in addition to the main team and Alpha Tauri).

If McLaren decides to part ways with Mercedes, another option would be to work with Audi. A company from Bavaria comes to F1 in 2026 and buys Sauber, which is headed by ex-McLaren head Andreas Seidl. Audi tried to purchase McLaren - the team refused, but the possibility of supplying engines remains.
