An Austrian gave only a game to Gulbis at the start in Monte Carlo

For the seventh time this season Ernest Gulbis recorded a loss in his first game in a tournament.
The Latvian slid with 1:6, 0:6 to Andreas Haider-Maurer in the match of the first round of "Masters 1000" in Monte Carlo tournament. This was the first tournament of Gulbis under the direction of Thomas Enkvist with whom the Latvian works recently.

"I trained very well. What I lack at the moment is the confidence. Throughout the week I was in a high spirits during the training. Any change brings positives. With Thomas we had a successful week on the court. He gave me a boost. He pressed me to the highest limit. Everything was great, except the last one hour on the court, in which I lost. "Said Gulbis.

The 28 years old Haider-Maurer currently holds the record for his 52nd place in the ATP rankings. Last week the Austrian reached the quarterfinals of the tournament in Casablanca (lost from Dzhumur). In the second round in Monte Carlo he will compete with Bernard Tomitch. This will be their first clash of nearly 3 years ("Roland Garros" 2012), when the Australians took the final success.

The qualifier from France Benoit Paire reached his third win of the season after he won with 6:3,
7:6 (3) over Dennis Kudla (US) per an hour and 35 minutes.

A victory record also Alexandr Dolgopolov, who dialed with 7:5, 5:7, 6:2 over Boris Chorich after more than two hours of game. The Ukrainian, who two weeks ago has reached the Round IV in Miami (has lost of Djokovic), achieved his victory No11 of the season.
